Let's be honest: 2025 was a challenging year.

Like many small, independent hardware companies, VisiblAir faced a number of obstacles:

  • 🇺🇸 U.S. tariffs, increasing costs and uncertainty
  • 🌍 Geopolitical instability, impacting sourcing and logistics
  • 🚚 DHL service disruptions and Canada Post strikes, complicating deliveries
  • ⏳ Longer component lead times, forcing ongoing production adjustments

To be transparent, although still cash positive, 2025 was not our strongest year financially.

But it was a year of resilience.

Despite the headwinds, VisiblAir kept moving forward — designing, testing, improving, supporting customers, and staying true to our core mission.

We've got some news, tips, and a little invitation to share — here's what's been happening in the world of VisiblAir! 🌿📦

📦 Canada Post Strike – More Shipping Options Available

Canada Post is currently in strike action, which has been causing delays and uncertainty with regular postal shipments. To make sure you still get your VisiblAir products without interruption, we've enabled additional shipping methods on our store. This means faster, more reliable options are now available at checkout so you can continue to receive your sensors and accessories with peace of mind.

🇺🇸 U.S. Tariffs – An Update for Our American Customers

As of August 29, 2025, the United States has suspended its duty-free de minimis threshold of US$800 for all imports. Every postal shipment into the U.S. now requires prepaid duties before crossing the border.

So far, we've been hit twice with the new 35% tariff on shipments to the U.S. These unexpected costs completely erased our margin on those orders. Interestingly, not all shipments have been affected — the rules seem inconsistently applied, and we are actively monitoring the situation.

If tariffs continue to be charged, we may need to adjust U.S. pricing to reflect this. For now, we'll keep absorbing the costs where possible while we seek clarity and solutions.

🌬️ CO₂ Calibration Reminder – Before the Cold Months

For those living in colder regions, now is the perfect time to check your CO₂ sensor calibration before winter:

  1. Place your sensor outside on a mild day (temperature above 10 °C).
  2. Keep it sheltered from wind, at least 6 ft from windows, doors, or vehicles.
  3. Let it acclimate 5–10 minutes.

If your reading is between 400–450 ppm, you're good. If not, we recommend recalibration to ensure accurate indoor air quality monitoring during the months you'll be relying on it most.

Sustainability is at the core of what we do, and we're making a big move: all our sensor cases will now be made from PLA and PETG. These materials are durable, easy to recycle, and align with our commitment to reducing waste.
Why the switch? PLA is derived from renewable resources like cornstarch and is compostable under industrial conditions, reducing our reliance on petroleum-based plastics. PETG, on the other hand, offers improved strength and chemical resistance, ensuring our sensors remain durable in various environments. By making this shift, we're reducing our environmental footprint while maintaining the high-quality, reliable products you expect from us.

After extensive testing, Model H is ready for action! Our battery tests show impressive results:
  • ~17 hours of operation without pressing the Live View button
  • ~11 hours when pressing the Live View button every 15 minutes

🛠️ Ensure Your CO₂ Sensor Is Ready for the Cold Season ❄️

As the temperatures begin to drop and the cold season approaches, many of us will be spending more time indoors with windows closed tight against the chill. This makes it more important than ever to ensure that your CO₂ sensor is accurately monitoring your indoor air quality. 🏠
With increased indoor activity and less natural ventilation, CO₂ levels can rise quickly, affecting comfort and health. An accurately calibrated CO₂ sensor helps you stay informed and take action when necessary. 🌬️
You can easily verify your CO₂ sensor's accuracy with a quick outdoor test:
  • 🌤️ Choose the Right Day: Select a day when the outdoor temperature is above 10°C (50°F). Mild temperatures ensure the sensor operates optimally during the test.
  • 📍 Ideal Location Matters: Place your sensor outside in an open area away from direct CO₂ sources like windows, vehicles, or people. Avoid areas with heavy traffic or crowds.
  • 📌 Special Note for Model F Users: The Model F sensor is sensitive to wind. To shield it, place the sensor in an open container, which allows air circulation without wind interference.
  • ⏳ Allow the Sensor to Stabilize: Let the sensor run for about 10 minutes to acclimate to the outdoor environment.
  • 📈 Check the Reading:
    • ✅ Between 400 and 450 ppm: Your sensor is properly calibrated.
    • ⚠️ Outside This Range: It's time to recalibrate your sensor.
